JONNIE KING, AND, BARRY MANN May 29, 1975, at KSLQ. Barry Mann, one of the most prolific writers in Rock & Roll History. He, and his wife Cynthia Weil, wrote such major hits as : "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling", "On Broadway", "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place", "Here You Come Again", "Just Once", "Soul and Inspiration", "Running With The Night", "Kicks", "I Just Can't Help Beliving", "Rock & Roll Lullaby", and, "Sometimes When We Touch".
It was truly a pleasure to Interview him and spend time with him, as I had admired his body of work and his talent for many years. As it turned out I was one of the only ones in St. Louis, when he came by the station with his then-new LP entitled "Survivor", that actually knew who he was ! He never forgot that...and mentioned that fact to the promotion people and higher-ups at RCA, which was his label at the time.
THIS AIRCHECK IS FROM JANUARY OF 1979

WE HAD DONE A TOP 300 back in 1974 but, with the closing of the decade, I suggested to Joel Denver our Program Director at the time that we do another one that would encompass the "70's".
Joel, a really terrific guy and still a good friend, asked me to head-up the project. I set-up everything with the artwork/printing people, and I remember finalizing some of the copy & pictures while at home on New Year's Day, 1980. I had a severe bout of the flu at that time, was running a high fever, but got it done and to the printer's by the next day.

A station tie-in with FOSTEX from 1977. Don't know where that cute girl is today, but I'd sure like to get a set of those Koss Headphones back !

Although it doesn't scan very well, this is part of a set of our "KSLQ IS BETTER THAN OK" Coasters. The "OK", of course, being our competition KXOK-AM.

THIS IS OUR #2 PRODUCTION ROOM AT KSLQ as it looked when it was brand new in 1972. It was located in the rear of the building overlooking the back parking lot. Many great commercials were produced here, and almost all of my shows for "THE BREAKFAST SERIAL" were produced in this room.
Due to the nature of my fading and blending of voice tracks, music, sound effects, and, recording the entire thing...sometimes both Tascam Reel-to-Reel machines, and at least three Cart machines might be used to put "The Breakfast Serial" together. Today it could almost be done with a mike and a computer at home...almost. JK
